What separates a writer who dreams of success from one who achieves it? Habits.
Writers are observers of the world. It’s what makes our stories feel alive and real. But observation alone isn’t enough—turning those moments into habits is what makes us grow. Here are three habits that every writer should embrace to fuel their creativity and improve their craft.
1. Jot Down Everything That Inspires You
Writing begins with noticing the world around you. A witty remark, a curious name, or even a small detail like the color of a passerby’s scarf can spark an idea.
In the past, writers carried notebooks everywhere. Today, your phone is your notebook. I encourage you to start three simple lists in your notes app:
Why do this immediately? Because inspiration is fleeting. If you don’t record it, it vanishes. Trust me—I've lost countless great ideas before developing this habit.
2. Dreams Are Your Creative Goldmine
Dreams are like a free brainstorming session with your subconscious. They transition seamlessly from one moment to the next, often in ways we’d never imagine while awake.
Write down your dreams—especially the strange, vivid ones. Even if you never use them directly, they’ll keep your creativity alive and might teach you to think more fluidly about transitions and story flow.
Some of my dreams are more imaginative than I could ever be. Who knows? That bizarre dream of yours might one day inspire the perfect scene or story.
3. Blogging: Practice Writing Every Day
Blogging is an underrated tool for writers. It forces you to write consistently, even if it’s just about the little things—like an odd encounter at the grocery store or a thought sparked by a walk in the park.
When you blog, you:
Don’t know where to start? Write about:
·Reflections on your writing process.
·Funny or intriguing daily encounters.
·A book, film, or experience that inspired you.
Don’t worry about the number of followers. Blogging isn’t about going viral; it’s about keeping your writing muscles active and honing your voice. Who knows? A reader might stumble upon your blog and fall in love with your style—and your scripts.
Start Small, Build Consistency
The beauty of these habits is that they don’t demand much time or effort, but the rewards are immense. Whether you’re jotting down an overheard phrase, recording a dream, or writing a blog post, you’re investing in your creativity.
Over time, these small habits will become second nature. Your stories will feel more vivid, your characters more authentic, and your writing more joyful.
What habits keep your creativity alive? Let’s share and inspire each other.

- Funny Expressions: Ever overhear a phrase so hilarious you can’t stop thinking about it? Write it down!

- Details: The texture of an old sofa, the smell of rain hitting asphalt—small details bring stories to life.
